Schenectady- Barbara Elaine Patton Cockerham, aged 91, passed away Monday April 28, 2014 at Glendale Home.
She was born on May 7, 1922 in Akron, OH, to Lawrence I. Patton and Nellie Mae Williams Patton. She was a resident of Schenectady since 1967.
Barbara attended Sieberling Elementary School and East High School in Akron, OH. She graduated from Akron University with a BA in Primary Education followed by a MA from Columbia University's Teacher College in NY. She was a dedicated teacher, returning to Sieberling School to teach first grade until her first child was born. She was also a long-time Sunday school teacher at Union Presbyterian Church in Schenectady. Barbara also worked as a receptionist at St. Clare's Hospital.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her siblings, Eleanor Pettyjohn, Margaret Patton and Paul Lamar Patton, all of Akron, and her son, Paul Wiley Cockerham of Copake Falls, NY. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Paul H. Cockerham, and 4 daughters: Joyce Cockerham of Troy, Carolyn (Kevin) Wiggins of Aulander, NC, Catherine Cockerham of Schenectady, and Mary Jane Cockerham (Johnny) of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Barbara's Memorial Service will be Sunday, May 4th at 2 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions can be made to the George Landis Arboratum in Esperance, NY.
