Bernice Stiner

September 7, 1922 — May 17, 2015

On Sunday, May 17, 2015, God brought home to Himself our beloved matriarch, Bernice Isabelle Stiner, age 92. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family. She was born in New York, NY, on September 7, 1922, and lived in the Schenectady area since 1970. Her life-long passions included music, family, cooking, and nature, and she was a longstanding faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Niskayuna. Whether it was at her treasured lake house or her West Hill home, she found her greatest joy when surrounded by family and friends. Bernice touched countless lives with her feisty, independent spirit. She was always giving, always living, always loving. Her memory will go on forever in the hearts and daily lives of the adoring family she leaves behind.
She was predeceased by her first husband Walter Walzer; by her second husband Stewart Stiner; by her brother Valentine Becker; by her children Diane Weber and Kenneth Walzer; and by her granddaughter Meghan Shanahan. She is survived by her children Janet Smith of Millheim PA, Susan Shanahan of Dayville CT, and David Walzer of Southborough MA; by her grandchildren Scott Weber, Lauren Cervantes, Elizabeth Ewaskiewicz, Amy Lawton, Anne Priest, Kerry Shanahan, Brian Shanahan, Christopher Walzer, Stephanie Snyder, Kelsey Walzer, and Leah Walzer; by her great-grandchildren Gavin Cervantes, Olivia Cervantes, Ava Cervantes, Samuel Ewaskiewicz, Nina Ewaskiewicz, Milo Ewaskiewicz, Wyatt Lawton, Isabel Lawton, Asa Priest, Maximillian Priest, Kailey Conley, and Kennedy Snyder; and by nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in Bernice's memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1850 Union St., Niskayuna, NY 12309.
