Niskayuna – Beryl Roberts Rockwell, age 100, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024.
Born April 21, 1924 at West Kendall, NY, she was a daughter of Herman and Beatrice Roberts. Beryl grew up in Rochester NY and was a 1942 graduate of West High School, and of Brockport State College ’46.
Her husband Kenneth H. Rockwell pre-deceased her. Theirs was a love story, which included 44 years of marriage.
After a short teaching career, she stayed home to raise the family. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and was a Stephen Minister. She was member of two book clubs, and the Quelques Fleurs Garden Club. She attended UCall classes at Union College in her senior years, and drove an automobile to age 96. She was a life-long lover of music, both as a performer (her orchestra played at the ’39-’40 New York World’s Fair) and as an attendee, mostly recently the Albany Symphony Orchestra. She supported Ken’s numerous efforts with the Rotary Club, and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Niskayuna Rotary Club.
Time spent with friends and particularly with family— “the children”— was all-important. She treasured moments spent at Lake George through the years.
Beryl is survived by her two sons Dr. David R. (Joan) Rockwell of Niskayuna and Stephen H. Rockwell of Schenectady, her daughter Laurel E. Rockwell of Clifton Park, and her sister Phyllis Beckwith of Ohio. She is also survived by five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30am Saturday, November 2nd at The First United Methodist Church of Schenectady, 603 State Street, Schenectady with Rev. Sara Baron officiating. Burial will be at the Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery at a later date.
