Charles D. Bennett 90, of Schenectady passed away peacefully on Friday September 25, 2015.
Charles was born in Schenectady on March 12, 1925, a son to Zepherine Bennett McCabe.
He graduated from Nott Terrace High School and continued his education at the American Press Institute of Columbia University.
Charles served in the U.S. Naval Air Corp in the Asiatic Pacific Area. He was a Lifetime member of D.A.V.
He worked for the former Schenectady Union Star newspaper, moving on to an account executive for WROW, WTRY and WGY. He then joined the Retail sales department at the Schenectady Gazette for 39 years, serving as Retail Ad Manager for the last 25 years of his career.
Charles served on the Board of NYS Advertising Manager Bureau; Past Commander of D.A.V. Chapter 88 and past member of New Hope Lodge #780. He was also a member of Annie Schaffer Center, where he played in the band, a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a member of Oak Ridge Garden Board and a member of Schenectady Musicians Union.
He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Delores Voight Bennett in 1981, his second wife, Patricia Whalen Bennett in 2012, his sons, William C. Bennett in 2000 and Floyd Johnson in 2007.
Survived by his 2 sons, Robert A. Bennett and Drew A. Bennett; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, September 29th at 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1850 Union St., Niskayuna. Burial with Military Honors to follow at Memory Garden's, Colonie.
In celebration of his life, contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or The City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
