Donald V. Scheuer

Donald Vincent Scheuer, Sr., 79, of Niskayuna passed away peacefully at his home on July 1, 2014 after a brief illness.
Donald is survived by his loving wife and partner of 59 years Lorraine, two daughters Donna M. Hart and Lisa S. Neyman (Kenneth), and a son Donald V. Scheuer, Jr. (Kim). He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sara A. Neyman, Eric J. Neyman, Brian D. Hart, and Kevin J. Hart.
Donald is also survived by his loving goddaughter Debbie Yakobi, two nephews Bill and John Engel, cousins Henry Kozlowski, Connie Shuba, and Katherine Bliven. He was pre-deceased by his dear brother Frank who passed away in 1996 as well as many nieces and nephews.
Donald was an Optician in the Capital District area for over 50 years starting his career in Troy with Williams Opticians and in Albany with Buenau's Opticians. In 1972 he entered a partnership with Robert C. Standish on Van Vranken Avenue in Schenectady until Mr. Standish's retirement in 1977 at which time Donald ran his practice alone until his retirement in 2003.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist and an active member of the Northside Business Association for over 20 years. Donald was a past president of the Society of Dispensing Opticians of the Capital District (1974-1976) and a past member of B.P.O.E. Colonie Elks.
He leaves behind many close and loving friends who will miss him always.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2014, from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Jones Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11 am at St. John the Evangelist, 816 Union Street, Schenectady.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Visiting Nurse Service of Northeast New York, 108 Erie Boulevard, Schenectady, or the American Cancer Society.
