Eileen S. Fox

March 3, 1920 — March 5, 2018

Eileen Fox, of Niskayuna, passed away on March 5, 2018, two days after her 98th birthday when she was surrounded by family and close friends who celebrated her life of generosity, kindness and deep love. Eileen was born in Schenectady on Mar. 3, 1920 to Florence Middleton and Anthony Sampay. She was vice-president of the senior class at Mont Pleasant High School and later attended Mildred Elley in Albany.
After graduating, she worked at Schenectady Trust, becoming secretary to the president.
She married high school classmate, Leland Pete Fox, in 1942 in Petersburg, VA where he was in Officers Training and later a captain in the Quartermaster Corps.
They returned to Schenectady in 1946 to raise four children, Lynn, twins Judy and Jim, and Deborah. Always active in her childrens activities and the familys love of sports, Eileen joined Pete in family camping trips, skiing at Hickory Hill in Warrensburg and Vermont, cheering her children in high school and college sports, and for her youngest, Deborah, horseback riding.
A caring friend who cherished deep and enduring relationships, Eileen was active in the Gardners Workshop, golf at the Edison and Mohawk clubs, and bridge. Three weeks before her passing, she hosted her bridge group in a lively afternoon of bridge in her beloved home of 65 years!
Eileens deep faith and membership in the Christian Science Church sustained and guided her throughout her life. Eileen always offered a helping hand to others and generously took care of elderly relatives well into their 90s.
Eileen was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Pete, after 52 years of marriage in 1994. She is survived by her children, Lynn Stuart of Carlisle, MA, James Fox of Clifton Park, Judith Radley of Laconia, NH, Deborah Fox of Ketchum, Idaho, her five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren who brought many delights in recent years, nieces, nephews and special friends who were like family to her.
A memorial service is planned for the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of ones choice.
