Schenectady - Eleanor Elva (Brumaghim) Wright died on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Kingsway Arms nursing home.
Born in Delmar, NY, on December 26, 1926, she was the daughter of Stuart L. Brumaghim and Norma (Steenburgh) Brumaghim.
She attended the former Cobleskill Central School and upon completing her education, she was employed by Selkirk Hardware and Appliance store in Cobleskill as a secretary and bookkeeper for the firm. At a later time in life she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Parsons Ford Auto dealership in Glens Falls.
On October 12, 1947 she married the Rev. Franklyn N. Wright in a wedding ceremony at the Hyndsville United Methodist Church. They were married for nearly 62 years when he preceded her in death in 2008.
During her years as a Pastor’s wife, she was active in most of the church areas where she and her husband served. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and at one time served various office in the local, district and conference levels. She taught in the Sunday Schools and also in Daily Vacation Bible Schools. For several summers, she directed the choir music at the Riverside Camp Grounds when her husband served as a director of the camp. Her interests included singing and she became a regular member of each of the choirs of the churches they served; directed some of the children’s choirs; and belonged to various community singing groups. She loved to read; dabble in writing poetry; and liked doing word puzzles.
Outside of the church, she has belonged to several community groups. Among them were the Women’s clubs in Canajoharie, Glens Falls, and Cobleskill. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary in Cobleskill and for the past several years she has been a member of the Interfaith Community of Schenectady, for a time server as a co-treasurer along with her husband.
Eleanor is survived by her son Jonathan Wright (Theresa) of Clover, SC and 2 granddaughters, Jaime Wright (Nate) of Charleston SC and Taylor Wright of Clover SC. One son, Richard Wright predeceased her in death in 1969. She is also survived by her brother Louis Brumaghim of Cobleskill and a sister Norma Cook of Gallupville. In addition, she is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on February 23, 2025 at 3 pm at Faith United Methodist Church.
