Obituary of Elizabeth M. Armstrong Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Niskayuna - Elizabeth "Betty" Armstrong, on November 24, 2018 Betty died as peacefully as she lived, in her home after a brief illness. She was 86 years old and a lifelong resident of Schenectady. Elizabeth Mary Viscusi was a star-spangled baby, born to Anthony and Frances Mazzullo Viscusi on July 4, 1932. As a child she spent summers with her beloved grandmother Elizabeth Mazzullo and extended family in New Rochelle. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1950 and after briefly working for Schenectady Savings and Loan, she earned an AAS from Schenectady County Community College. She then began a long career as one of Schenectady's most well-known and successful realtors, first with Welbourne and Purdy, then with Veronica Lynch. She retired in 2010. Betty Armstrong always had a good paperback novel with her. Good reads always came in handy during her many years as a Schenectady Realtor, helping to pass time when there'd be a lull in the potential buyers stopping to view one of her open houses. And she would always bring a paperback when she'd stay with her children on visits, plunging into the story in the early morning before others were up. Betty had many interests that spoke to her peaceful nature. She loved to take long walks, she enjoyed cooking, as well as knitting and sewing for her daughter Laura and granddaughter Brenna. She also enjoyed traveling with a cruise she took to Spain, France and Italy with her daughter-in-law Pam and grandsons Ryan and Brendan among her most memorable trips. In recent years she took up genealogy, learning with great excitement about her ancestors and her roots in Italy. She is survived by her daughter Laura Donovan of Hingham, MA; son-in-law William Donovan of Hingham, MA, daughter-in-law Pam Armstrong of Delmar, and brother Anthony Viscusi of Schenectady "Gammie" also leaves four grandchildren: Brenna Donovan, William B. Donovan, Ryan Armstrong and Brendan Armstrong. She is predeceased by her son Jeffrey Armstrong and her brother John Viscusi. Memorial donations in Betty's memory may be made to The American Heart Association, The America Cancer Society or to Community Hospice, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
