Elizabeth Burgess

March 27, 1957 — January 1, 2017

Niskayuna-Elizabeth Julia Burgess (Betty) passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2017. She was born in Schenectady on March 27, 1957, and is survived by her parents, Robert and Julia Burgess, her sister Susan Burgess, her brother John Burgess, his wife Barbara, and beloved nieces and nephew, Samantha, Alexandra, and Timothy Burgess, all of Niskayuna.
Betty graduated from Niskayuna High School and attended SUNY Potsdam, Schenectady County Community College, Hudson Valley Community College, and Pikes Peak Institute, gaining certification as a licensed Medical Laboratory Technician. She began her medical career in Colorado Springs working at the Community Health Care Center and Olympic Training International Center for Aquatic Research. Returning to Schenectady she began a long career with the NYOH at River View Cancer Care in Rexford, where over twenty years of service she touched many lives and was beloved by all who came under her care. Betty was also an integral component of the staff at the Turf Tavern for many years, where she will be remembered for taking a genuine interest in each person she served.
Betty had a wonderful sense of humor and always made the most of festive events, especially Halloween and Christmas. She approached them with a youthful exuberance and joy that infused all who came in contact with Betty, especially the young people in her life.
She found purpose in helping others and sharing her love for life and in that spirit donated her viable organs through the Center for Donation and Transplant of New York and Vermont.
Calling hours will be held at the Turf Tavern, 40 Mohawk Ave, Scotia, NY from 5:30pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, January 5th .
