Saratoga Springs - Ellen Briggs Desotell, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs.
She was born in Schenectady in May of 1928 to Anna Hogan Briggs and John F. Briggs.
She attended Mont Pleasant Hich School, Schenectady Community College and Empire State College.
Through the years she worked at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, Van Raalte Company in Saratoga Springs, Natale American in Saratoga Springs and ultimately, retired with 21 years of service from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany.
She was a former member of the Historical Society of Saratoga Springs, CSEA, the Senior Center of Saratoga Springs and the Ladies of Charity of Saratoga Springs. Ellen was predeceased by her first husband Edward M. Westfall and second husband, Herman A. Desotell.
Additionally, she was predeceased by one brother, John F. Briggs Jr. and sisters Alice Briggs, Lillian Brennan, and Anna Payne.
Survivors include her sisters, Mary Socha of Schenectady,
and Teresa (Thomas) Young of Tallahassee, Florida; her son, Edward (Gail) M. Westfall Jr. of Westmoreland, NY and daughter, Lillian Miles of Wilton; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition, she is survived by long standing and loving friends Carmel Moffett and Mary Lou Paley. Ellen's family would like to express their loving gratitude to the entire staff of Floor D2 at Wesley Health Center for their attention and kindness during her stay.
In addition, we would like to thank the Hospice staff for their continued attention to her during her final days.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 23rd from 2PM to 4PM at Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie.
A prayer service will be held at 3:30 PM. Ellen has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga Springs or the charity of your choice. To leave a message of condolence, visit www.jonesfh.net
