Glenn H. Winchester 89, of Niskayuna, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness.
Glenn was born in Schenectady and was a lifelong resident of Niskauyna. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, and served in the Navy Air Corps from 1943 to 1946, as an Aviation Machinist's Mate 3rd class.
Glenn worked at General Electric Co. in the Turbine Dept and Facilities Dept before he transfered to GE Global R & D Center in Niskayuna, retiring in 1986. He was a Life Member of the Grand Blvd. Fire Company for 60 years and was Volunteer 2nd Assistant Chief from 1969 to 1977, Glenn was also a member of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Taylor Winchester; a son, William G. (Colleen Cosgrove) Winchester of Scotia, a daughter, Janis W. Maggs of Scotia; sisters, Marion Lathrop of Glenville and Evelyn Gray of Port Ludlow, WA; granddaughter Emily (Nick) Regan of Canton, MA, grandson Jesse Winchester of Schenectady and great granddaughters, Sophie Regan and Caroline Regan both of Canton, MA. Predeceased by his sister, Dorothy R. Winchester and his brother Paul G. Winchester.
A Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Friday at 1 PM at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady for those who wish to call.
