John B. Cunningham 62, of Niskayuna, died suddenly after a brief illness at Ellis Hospital on Monday March 2, 2015.
John was born in Rockville Center, NY, and lived in the capital district for many years.
He was a graduate of St. Catherine of Sienna and Valley Stream North High, both in Franklin Square, LI. He served in the US NAVY as a corpsman from 1970-1972 during Vietnam War Era.
John was a registered professional nurse earning his degree from Russell Sage Junior College of Albany. He was a former employee of Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center and was recently employed at Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Center in Albany, NY. John loved caring for the many patients he served during his 30 plus years of nursing.
He was predeceased by his parents, John J. and Dorothy Baxter Cunningham.
He is the beloved husband of Ann F. Nuttall Watson of Niskayuna; his beloved brother, Kevin Cunningham of Schenectady; his loving children, Krysta A. (Scott) Valet of Troy, Karah L. Watson (Sherry) of Schenectady and Robert L. (Sarah) Watson of Rotterdam. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robert F. Valet, Shayna M. Valet, Scott D. Valet Jr. all of Troy, Morgan J. Watson, Alice M. Watson and Frances D. Watson all of Rotterdam. Brother in-law of Rosemary VanDenburgh, Kathleen Nuttall of Troy, the late Pat Morrissey and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
A special thank you to Dr. Brian McDonald and the ICU staff at Ellis Hospital for the loving care given to John.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Friday March 6th at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Avenue, Troy, NY. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady. Entombment will be private. T
