Jos Domingo Velsquez-Quiroz, affectionally known as "Pepe", age 60, of Hoover Road, died Sunday, December 6, 2020 following courageously living with and battling against Pancreatic Cancer.
Born on October 27, 1960 in Arequipa, Peru, he was the son of Jos Domingo Velsquez Valencia and Delia Rose Natividad Quiroz Lazo.
Jos grew up in Arequipa, Peru and graduated with the Class of 1978 from the all-boys private La Salle Catholic School and remained active and in contact with his classmates throughout his life.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Universidad Catolica Santa Maria in Arequipa in 1984 and completed a graduate course in Organizational Behavior at the University at Albany, State University of New York in 1997.
Jos married Beth Anne Long on January 4, 1992 in Saratoga Springs, NY and they returned to live in Arequipa, Peru later that month.
Jos returned to Beth's home country in June 1993, and moved to Niskayuna in 1995.
Jos's first profession was banking.
He worked for the Banco de Credito del Peru in Arequipa from 1982 until 1993 when he moved to the United Stated.
He started in the bank with the Importation and Exportation Division, later became a Credit Officer and ended his tenure with bank as a Branch Manager.
Once in the United States, Jos began work in the Preservation Unit at the New York State Library (Department of Education) in Albany, NY in 1993, leaving his position to work from 2001-2005 at the Albany Law School Library as a Cataloger, then returning to the New York State Library in 2005 where he worked as a Cataloger until his retirement on December 1, 2020. Jos became a naturalized US Citizen on November 5, 2004.
Jos enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He loved music and the outdoors, especially biking, walking, tending to his gardens and doing yardwork whenever the weather permitted such activities.
He made many visits to his beloved hometown Arequipa, Peru, which he cherished. He was a kind, gentle and generous man who cared deeply about people.
Should he have regained his health, he expressed a strong desire to spend his retirement working with those in need within our community.
Pepe, who was a life-long Catholic, attended masses at St. Anthony's Church in Schenectady, NY and cherished participating in their Spanish-speaking congregation's annual procession for Seor de Los Milagros.
He also participated in many activities with his wife at the First United Methodist Church in Schenectady where he was also well-known and loved by the members.
Survivors include his wife, Beth, of almost 29 years; his mother Rosa, sister Roxana and brother Jorge Velasquez-Quiroz
(Paula Gomez Mostajo) and nephew's Ignacio and Patricio of Arequipa, Peru; his father-in-law Robert Long of
Niskayuna; his brother-in-law Stephen Long of Scotia and his nieces and nephews Sabrina, Zachary, Tyler and Katrina.
Jos was predeceased by his father Jos Domingo.

Jos Domingo Velsquez-Quiroz, conocido cariosamente como "Pepe", de 60 aos, de Hoover Road, falleci el domingo 6 de diciembre del 2020 luego de luchar valientemente contra el cncer de pncreas. Naci el 27 de octubre de 1960 en Arequipa, Perú, hijo de Jos Domingo Velsquez Valencia y Delia Rose Natividad Quiroz Lazo.
Jos creci en Arequipa, Perú y se gradu en 1978 en el colegio La Salle. Durante toda su vida permaneci en activo contacto con sus compaeros de colegio. En 1984, recibi una Licenciatura en Administracin de Empresas de la Universidad Catlica Santa Mara de Arequipa. En 1997, complet un posgrado en Comportamiento Organizacional en la Universidad de Albany de Nueva York.
Jos se cas con Beth Anne Long el 4 de enero de 1992 en Saratoga Springs, NY y ese mismo mes regresaron a vivir a Arequipa, Perú. Jos y Beth regresaron al pas de nacimiento de Beth en junio de 1993 y posteriormente se mudaron a Niskayuna en 1995. Jos se naturaliz en ciudadano estadounidense el 5 de noviembre de 2004.
Jos inici su vida profesional en la banca. Trabaj para el Banco de Crdito del Perú en Arequipa desde 1982 hasta 1993. Comenz a trabajar en la Divisin de Importacin y Exportacin del Banco, luego se convirti en Oficial de Crdito y termin sus labores en el banco como Gerente de Sucursal. En 1993, en los Estados Unidos, Jos trabaj en la Unidad de Preservacin de la Biblioteca del Estado de Nueva York (Departamento de Educacin) en Albany, NY.
Durante los aos 2001 al 2005, trabaj como Catalogador en la Biblioteca de la Facultad de Derecho de Albany.
Regres a la Biblioteca del Estado de Nueva York en 2005, donde trabaj como Catalogador hasta su jubilacin el 1 de diciembre de 2020.
A Jos le gustaba pasar tiempo con su familia y amigos. Le encantaba la música y cuando el clima lo permita realizaba actividades al aire libre; especialmente montar bicicleta, caminar, cuidar y trabajar en el jardn. Hizo muchas visitas a su amada y entraable ciudad natal Arequipa, Perú. Era un hombre amable, gentil y generoso que se preocupaba profundamente por la gente. En sus últimos das, expres un fuerte deseo de pasar su jubilacin trabajando con los necesitados de nuestra comunidad.
Pepe, quien fue catlico toda su vida, asista a misa en la Iglesia de San Antonio en Schenectady, Nueva York y disfrut de participar en la procesin anual del Seor de Los Milagros con la congregacin de habla hispana. Tambin era conocido y amado por los miembros de la Primera Iglesia Metodista Unida en Schenectady, donde particip en muchas actividades con su esposa.
Los sobrevivientes incluyen a su esposa, Beth, con quien estuvo casado casi 29 aos; su madre Rosa, su hermana Roxana y su hermano Jorge Velsquez-Quiroz (Paula Gmez Mostajo) y sus sobrinos Ignacio y Patricio de Arequipa, Per su suegro Robert Long de Niskayuna; su cuado Stephen Long de Escotia y sus sobrinos Sabrina, Zachary, Tyler y Katrina.
