Joyce M. Eastwood

January 5, 1917 — January 28, 2011

Cohoes-Joyce Eastwood was born to Albert and Ada Olson in Gloversville, New York on January 5, 1917, and she passed away peacefully on January 28, 2011 at the age of 94. Joyce grew up in Gloversville and graduated from Gloversville High School. She married Thomas Eastwood of Johnstown, New York in 1938, and they enjoyed the next 56 years together until Tom's passing in 1995. Throughout their years together, Joyce and Tom lived in Gloversville, New York; Caroga Lake, New York; Schenectady, New York; Roanoke, Virginia; and Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Joyce was the oldest of three children. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Olson. Her sister, Donna Mae Curtin currently resides in Gloversville, New York.
Joyce is survived by four children, James (RaeAnn) of Marsh Harbor, Bahamas, Joycelyn Eastwood of Camino, California, Gayle Blumenberg (Bob) of Nantucket, Massachusetts, and Paul (Bonnie) of Carson City, Nevada; four grandchildren, Dori Emerick, Brent Eastwood, Paul II and Salina Eastwood, and David Hobbs; and four great-grandchildren, Paul III, RaeAnn, Erin, Thomas James, and Boden Hobbs.
If degrees were given to stay-at-home moms, Joyce would have received no less than a Masters degree in the art of homemaking. She loved to cook and bake and nurture her family. Joyce suffered a major stroke when she was 45 years old, and her tenacity to live a full life afterwards was an inspiration to us all. Joyce was greatly loved and will be immensely missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service commemorating Joyce's life will be held in the summer at Caroga Lake, New York. An announcement will be made as plans are finalized. Joyce requested that any remembrances in her name be made to "The American Stroke Association," 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231.
