Joyce Ramsey Griggs of Schenectady passed away peacefully Sunday, October 18, 2020 after a period of declining health. She was 87.
Joyce was born on November 15, 1932, and was the daughter of Charles and Ruby (Deanor) Ramsey. The third of four children, Joyce spent her early years on the family's tobacco farm surrounded by extended family and a loving community.
Early in her career, Joyce worked for General Electric in conjunction with NASA and the Atlas Missile Program. It was there that she met her future husband Jerry Griggs. After a hiatus to raise their children, Joyce returned to the workforce as manager of Home Therapy Equipment in Clifton Park where she remained until her retirement.
Joyce was an active and longtime member of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, both internationally and domestically. Her favorite places were Cape Cod and Scotland. In addition to travel, Joyce enjoyed antiquing, sailing on Lake George and doting on her grandchildren.
She leaves her son Jerry R. Griggs, Jr. and his wife Bridgette, her daughter Paige Griggs, as well as her grandchildren Kathryn and Michael Janower.
Services are private and burial is at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.
