Kenneth L. Oberg

Niskayuna- Kenneth Lee Oberg, 70, passed away on September 11, 2009 at home in Niskayuna, NY. Born on April 20, 1939 in Woodstown, NJ, he was the son of the late George and Violet (Nordstrom) Oberg. A graduate of Woodstown High School, NJ in 1956, Kenneth earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lehigh University in 1963, graduating with honors. He served in the United States Army for two years, spending a year in Seoul, South Korea. Ken later earned a JD from University of Pennsylvania Law School 1967.
At Merck, Ken worked in the International Legal Department on customs and tariff issues in Europe and throughout the world. His crowning achievement was inclusion of most of his ideas in the US re-negotiation of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, which then became the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Following his retirement in 1995, Ken enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, travelling, and authoring his first full-length novel. During his retirement, Ken lived in Somersworth, NH; Coventry, CT; and Niskayuna, NY. Ken enjoyed reading, watching sports, and cooking.
A much loved and cherished father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Ken is survived by his son Gregory L. Oberg, his daughter, Julianne K. Oberg and son-in-law Dr. Steven Weitz, and son Christopher G. Oberg and daughter-in-law Pamela; grandchildren Kaitlyn, Lindsey, Adam, and Alexis; brother Duane C. Oberg and sister-in-law Patricia; sister Liane (Lynn) C. Oberg; many loving nieces and nephews, and his cat, Anonymouse. He was predeceased by his brothers Lurelle (Lou) Oberg and Darrell K. Oberg.
Friends and relatives are invited to services which will take place on Wednesday, September 16th at 4:00 pm at Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 1503 Union Street, Schnectady, NY. A private reception will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Kenneth Lee Oberg to Lehigh University, 27 Memorial Drive West, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
