New York City - Laura A. Weatherhead, 69, of New York City, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 20, 2024. She was born in Denver, Colorado to Mary and Charles Weatherhead on February 12, 1955. Laura was raised in Schenectady, NY and graduated from Linton High School in 1973.
She received a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., and went on to Babson College in Wellesley, MA for her MBA with a specialization in business finance.
Throughout her 40-year career in finance, she was able to work with banking institutions across the world. Laura was totally dedicated to her career and was well respected by everyone she encountered in the industry. After recently retiring in September 2024, she was able to begin her retirement journey, starting with a trip to Vermont with her sister Kathy. Her next planned trip was going to be to Switzerland, where she previously worked, and to visit numerous other countries in Europe this summer. She also loved visiting Maine each summer with her family and planned to continue this tradition for years to come. She had a strong passion for dogs and was very knowledgeable about all the breeds, especially King Charles Cavaliers Spaniel. Laura loved living in New York City and going for walks with her dog Monty prior to his passing, as well as just taking in the city sights and sounds.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John, and brother-in-law Wayne Willette. She cherished time with her family and will be greatly missed. Laura is survived by her brother, Tom (Judi) Weatherhead and sister Kathy Willette. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Kacie (Gavin) Perryman, Jillian Weatherhead, Jordan Willette, Nicholas Weatherhead and Tyler Weatherhead. Other surviving and loved family members include her Aunt Gail Weatherhead, and Cousins Mary Kearney, Tom and Deana Alvy and their sons T.J. and Trevor.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am on Monday, January 6, 2024, at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church on Union Street in Schenectady, NY. Father Tom Fallati will be officiating. Her final resting place will be in her niche next to her brother, John, at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY following the service. There will be no calling hours.
