MATTHEW J. McGETTRICK
A long-time resident of Bridgewater Township, Matthew McGettrick passed away peacefully on January 21, 2020, in Hillsborough, New Jersey.
He was 96.
Matt was born on August 25, 1923, in Schenectady, New York, where he graduated from Nott Terrace High School.
As a decorated World War II Veteran, he saw combat in France, Germany, Britain and Czechoslovakia with the Army's 94th Infantry Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism.
After the war he returned to Schenectady and enrolled at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, from which he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering in 1950.
Matt was married for 71 years to Marcia Hope McGettrick (Neuhaus) of Schenectady, who preceded him in death in July 2019. Matt spent most of his career with the building products division of GAF Corporation.
After a number of years working in New Jersey, Vermont, Illinois, Missouri and Maryland, he and his family moved permanently to Bridgewater Township, New Jersey in 1965.
He is survived by his children Diane Gaspar, of Springfield, Virginia; Joan Lorton, of Boyne City, Michigan; and David McGettrick, of Bridgewater Township, New Jersey; as well as four grandchildren and five-great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.
A
memorial service will be held at 12Noon Friday, February 7 at Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 1503 Union Street, Schenectady, NY. Friends may call from 11am to 12 Noon prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
