Nancy Thornton, beloved mother, passed away on August 30th.
She was the widow of Gunnar Thornton, is survived by four children, a grandchild and her brother. Born in East Orange New Jersey on November 27th 1923, she lived in Squantum MA during her youth where she married Gunnar Thornton. Nancy, born Nancy Alice Williamson, was the daughter of Thomas Lamar Williamson, originally of Greenwood Mississippi and of Edith Williamson of Chicago. Nancy attended Green Mountain College, worked as a secretary and later as a homemaker. A faithful member of the Niskayuna Reformed Church where she served as a Deacon. Known as an avid reader and book club attendee, she also loved animals.
Nancy is survived by her brother Thomas Williamson of Squantum MA, her children, Leslie Thornton of Brooklyn NY, Eleanor Thornton of Scotland CT, John Thornton of Keene NH and Douglas Thornton of Niskayuna NY; her grandchild Katie Thornton of Portland OR, and by her friend and companion Bob Schlieman.
There will be a visiting hour at 10am, a service at 11 and a reception immediately after on Friday, September 3rd at the Niskayuna Reformed Church.
Interment will be Wednesday, September 8th at the Dennis Village Cemetery in Dennis MA.
There will also be a memorial service held at the First Congregational Church in Squantum MA on Saturday, September 11th at 11 am.
