Niskayuna- Robert A Matz 77, of Niskayuna, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009 at home with his family by his side.
Bob was born April 17, 1931 in Bethlehem, PA, son of the late Charles and Margaret Cavey Matz. He graduated from Bethlehem Technical High School, attended Penn State Extension and graduated from Radio & Television School of Allentown, PA. Bob was an Army Veteran stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed with Bethlehem Steel Corp. Albany, New York office, and was Chief of Construction Services at the time of his retirement.
Bob's interests were golf, traveling, fishing, reading and he was a creative and talented woodworker.
He was an Ordained Deacon in the Presbyterian Faith, a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Schenectady, a Life Member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Clifton Park BPOE.
Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Margaret Matz; his children, Sheila R. Forstoffer (Edward), Sherry K. Kresh (Ronald), Sharon L. Walters(Richard), Shelly A. Kraihanzel (Paul), Marc J. Matz, Shawn R. Matz; 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; his brother, Charles Matz(Adele) and his sister, Dolores Ackerman(Carl).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Bob's Life on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 2 PM at Union Presbyterian Church, Schenectady. There will be no calling hours and entombment with full Military Honors will be at Saratoga National Cemetery on Friday April 17th at 3 PM.
