Virginia Beach, VA -- Robert M. Newkirk 45, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away suddenly Monday, April 6, 2009. Bob was born on August 22, 1963 in Amsterdam, NY the son of Joyce and Robert Newkirk of Scotia.
He grew up in Scotia graduating from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1981. He attended SUNY at Canton and Albany and finished his education at Old Dominion University in Virginia Beach, VA. He was employed by Pitney Bowes as an Account Executive beginning his career in Albany and later transferring to Pitney Bowes in Norfolk, VA. He resided in Virginia Beach, VA for the past 16 years until his death. Before moving to Virginia he was active in High School swimming where he served as coach for the Niskayuna High School Boys and Girls Swim Team. He was also a member of the Beukendaal Lodge No. 915, F. & A. M.
He is survived by his parents, Joyce and Robert Newkirk of Scotia, a sister Tammy McGraw and her husband Mark, three nieces Allyson, Margaret and Kathleen McGraw of Fairfax Station, Virginia, several aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Scotia United Methodist Church, 201 N. Ten Broeck Street, Scotia. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Glenville. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday evening at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street (at McClellan St.), Schenectady from 5 to 8 p.m.
Those wishing to remember Bob may make contributions to the American Heart Association, the Animal Protective Foundation of Schenectady or to a charity of choice.
