Cohoes-Robert Franklin Parslow passed away quietly early Sunday morning Aug 26, 2012 after a long illness at the Eddie Village Green Nursing Home. He is survived by siblings Barbara Saddock, Irving Parslow (Barbara), Peter Parslow (Pat), Esther Rendano & Ruth Derbyshire; Children John Harold Parslow (Joan) & Helen Ruth Penna (Lon); Grandchildren Jennifer Reynolds, David Parslow, Allen Parslow, Lorraine Bonynge, Cynthia Leveillee; Great Grandchildren Zachary Reynolds (11), Marie Bonynge (8), Sarah Bonynge (6), Nora Leveillee (4) and Nathan Leveillee (3 mo.)
Robert was born September 23, 1927 in Watervliet, NY to John F. Parslow and Helen St. Denis. Bob married Eleanor Ruth Greenlaw April 26, 1947 and Helen Dytman, March 16, 1997.
Bob was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy for 2-years with tours of duty on the Destroyer Escort USS Witek. Bob worked as an auto electrical & diesel mechanic with Ehrlich Auto Parts, later D&W Diesel & Electric. Bob was extremely active. Robert F. Parslow, 32 M.S. was a Master Mason of the Apollo-King Solomon's Lodge #13, Troy, NY and was honored with a Meritorious Service Award. He was a member of the Oriental Shrine Temple, Troy Delta Bodies and Albany Sovereign Consistory and the Albia Lodge of Odd Fellows and associate patron of Palestine Chapter #270 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a soaring (glider) pilot with the Mohawk Soaring Club. He played the guitar and was a soloist at The First Presbyterian Church, Troy; Christ Church United Methodist Church, Troy; St. Georges Church, Schenectady and sang in and served as President of the Troy Vocal Society. He was also active in Amateur Radio, Mayfair Field Archers Association, the Troy Astronomy Club (he fabricated his own telescopes and stands) and Tamarack Twirlers Square Dance Club. Bob had keen interests in Electronics, Snow Skiing, Tennis, Model Building, Fishing & Hunting. He loved boating (he converted his canoe for sailing). Bob & Ellie enjoyed many relaxing hours aboard their cabin cruiser "The Blue Bird" where Bob, of course, served as Commodore of the Van Schaick Island Yacht Club.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday at 11 AM at Jones Funeral Home Inc , 1503 Union St ,Schenectady, NY. Visitation will be from 10 AM, a time to reminisce about Robert and experiences with him as well as photos of him, family, and friends. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Robert's memory to the Shriner's Hospital.
