Robert L. Winchester

Robert L. Winchester of Niskayuna passed away in his home on Saturday, January 12. He was the husband of Judith (McTerney) Winchester and the father of Ellen of Phippsburg ME, Caroline of Delmar NY, and Lucy of Santiago, Chile. He is also survived by a granddaughter and grandson in Chile.
Born in St. Louis MO in 1926, Bob served in the Navy in World War II. He graduated from CalTech with a degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to a distinguished career in Schenectady at General Electric. He was a manager in the large steam turbine--generator department, the author of papers on generators and their methods of excitation, and an IEEE Fellow.
Bob was an accomplished competitive runner, winning many awards in upstate New York road races. He loved the Adirondack Mountains, where he enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, canoeing, hiking, and spending time with his wife and their friends at their camp at Garnet Hill in North River.
At Bob's request, there are no funeral services.
