Schenectady-After a long struggle with Alzheimer's, Tomoko Akin, loving wife and mother to three children, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on the morning of Monday, January 11, 2021, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY.

She loved seeing Broadway shows, reading mysteries, visiting New York City, had a passion for travel, and enjoyed the arts especially opera and symphonies. She was an avid volunteer of her time to her children's schools and helped to feed the hungry at the City Mission of Schenectady.
Tomoko was predeceased by her devoted husband, Richard W. Akin, in 2011.
She is survived by her three sons, Michael Akin (wife, Jacqueline Akin), Richard T. Akin (husband, Joseph Austin), and John Akin (wife, Cynthia Akin), and her four grandchildren, Samantha, Ashley, Penelope, and Percival.
Due to the current pandemic there will not be a service at this time nor any calling hours. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., where she will be able to be buried with her husband. The family has asked that donations be made in Tomoko's memory to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) in lieu of flowers.
